Outliers

Every wonder why some people succeed in life while others never reach their full potential? This is the question Malcolm Gladwell poses and then explains why. Using examples such as Bill Gates, Beetles, and others, he paints a picture of how these people reached success in their lives. Hard work doesn't necessarily pay off. Many times you have to be in the right place at the right time or the social standing to get that leg up on others. Gladwell shows you why the majority of the best hockey players were born in January, how the cultural background of a pilot effects their crash record, and how many hours of practice it takes to master a skill.

Its probably not very practical to use the applications shared in this book. For instance it takes 10,000 hours (or roughly ten years) to master a skill and the majority of that time period taking place during childhood. Readers of Outliers will almost certainly not be in their childhood. However, Gladwell weaves together a great story that leaves you entertained throughout.
